Community work in context: Aligning expectations in 2023

"I've been to both ends of every major interstate in this country. To understand the road at the end? I think the best place to start is the beginning."

— Uncle Ed, over-the-road truck driver
Head of Community at Common Room’s uncle

Imagine yourself at the end of next year. Where would you like your community to be? Your organization? Your career? To get where you're going, the best place to start is the beginning.

Community <—> Business impact

Over the past year, we've heard one common theme emerge from the community teams and customers we've worked with: Community leaders need to draw a straight line between community work and business impact. We want to help kickstart alignment conversations between community teams and business stakeholders so everyone can dance into 2023 with a clear idea of how success is defined for both community members and the businesses that serve them.

To help spark those conversations between community and DevRel leaders and stakeholders, we created this free 5-question, 30-minute self-guided exercise that will highlight where community builders' work and business priorities intersect...and where they don't.

Questions you'll focus on to gain early alignment with business stakeholders:

  1. What are my strengths and how do they fit within my role and organizational expectations?
  2. What are my top 3 goals for the community this year?
  3. What’s the first resource, event, program, or outcome I want to deliver in 2023?
  4. What community health metric do I most want to improve by June 2023?
  5. What’s one way I want to enrich my professional growth in 2023?

By illuminating alignment gaps early, we hope to help set each other up for success from the very beginning of the year.

Let's get this party started 🎉
