Why it matters
When someone drops a question related to your product in a community or forum, it’s the perfect excuse to slide into their DMs.
You’re not cold calling—you’re providing value to someone asking for help.
What to do
Don't just swoop in with a generic sales pitch disguised as helpfulness. Actually read the question, understand the pain point, and craft a response that genuinely moves the needle for them.
The goal here is to be the hero who saves the day, not the sales rep who hijacks a support thread. Lead with value, sprinkle in some social proof, and then—only then—suggest a conversation.
Questions to inform outreach- Is the person an existing customer?
- If the person is a customer, what plan are they on?
- What actions is the person talking in the community or forum?
- Has the person shared any information about challenges or goals?
- Is the person in a role with budget authority?
- Has the person interacted with your organization outside of the community or forum?
